Summer Layers

This heat is getting borderline nauseating. And last week's heat wave cost people their lives. Thankfully we were not as affected. Keep your cool people. Here are some tips to combat heat with style.
  1. Time your outdoor activities right. Avoid outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day, typically between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. I do not enjoy stepping out of the house before six in the evening.
  2. Wear loose, breathable and light-colored cotton fabrics. Remember, natural fabrics - good. Synthetic - bad.
  3. Freeze bottles of water. Take one with you every time you step out. This way you have a bottle of ice-cold water to drink after the ice melts.
  4. Hats are cool. Get it?
  5. Take frequent baths or showers with cool or tepid water.
  6. Try storing lotions or cosmetic toners in the refrigerator. Use cool lotions and potions on over-tired skin. Neat idea, eh?
  7. Chuck your foundation, use tinted moisturizer instead. I use Bare Minerals over primer and they don't come off even after I jump in the pool. Soaks up the shine but keeps skin looking luminescent. Perfect.
  8. Don't overdo with make-up, use bright colors on nails to look ten kinds of cool instead.
  9. Always remember to remove all your make-up and cleanse, tone and moisturize your skin every night before going to bed. Your skin could use with the TLC.
  10. Use liberal amount of your favorite hair masque. My favorite is the CHI Nourish Intense Hair Masque. It's light, without any over-powering smell and tames my fly-aways.
  11. Use light, floral deos and perfumes as opposed to really strong fragrances. You do not want to smell stale by the end of the day. Keeping it simple and light is the key. Over-powering smells are a strict no-no.
  12. Eat small meals and eat more often. The larger the meal, the more metabolic heat your body creates breaking down the food. Avoid foods that are high in protein, which increase metabolic heat.
  13. Drink a lot of water. Refer to the post Pants are Loose for tips on making the most out of drinking water.
Now onto the outfit. I have done two awesome things with my outfit here. I am wearing a skirt as a dress and used layers to give the outfit more depth. Layers are not only for fall and winters. Use light fabrics and layer them. Cinch the skirt at the waist with the belt. Carry your heels with you to transform the outfit from sexy to sexier. Use accessories with animal print as opposed to pops of color. Keep it simple. Simple goes a long long way. I did not want my outfit to look too busy. And I think I succeeded. What do you think?
